Basket of Storage

I've been on a bit of a cleaning spree around here- going through cabinets and drawers, getting rid of items I don't need or use and moving them around to find a better place. You know how it goes, you clean out one drawer just to need to find a new home for half the stuff coming out of it. Since our house has limited storage and I don't like clutter (emphasis on the latter), I have to be creative as to what we keep and where it goes. While starring at our messy linen closet, I thought,  if I could find a better place for our blankets, then that would free up a whole shelf. So out the blankets came and before I knew it, it was already filled with more "stuff".  Now I left myself with no other choice, but to find a different place for them.

I had remembered a recent shopping trip with a girlfriend to Pottery Barn where they had some amazing baskets. I thought I could kill two birds with one stone - accessorize and storage. They have some great baskets right now, but I didn't want to spend $50-100. Not on a basket at least. So off to TJMaxx I go and what do you know, they have some there for $19.99!

Here is where the basket has landed for now.

I have to say that it has been convenient having the blankets in the living room. We actually have been using them. I love when design meets functionality.

Quick Media Stand Update

We bought our media stand when my husband and I first moved in together in 2009. It was cheap and simple and, at the time, I loved the dark, rich color.  That was nearly five years ago and now I don't like it. What I do like is that it has shaker style doors (classic) and that I didn't spend a lot of money on it (don't feel guilty that I am about to paint it).

Here is a look at what it looked like before.

And here is a look at what it looks like now.

So here is what we did. First, we removed the doors, hardware and shelves. I filled the hardware holes in with wood filler and let dry for about an hour. Then I did a quick sand over every surface, including the insides of the cabinet.

Then, I put on two coats of sander deglosser. I Bought this at home depot and applied it with an old towel.

Once the deglosser dried, I painted the first coat. The paint we used was Behr and the color is called Pewter Ring. We used a semi-gloss paint with a primer built in.

After that dried, I painted one more coat and let dry for 24 hours before we re-assembled.

While I painted and took care of the media cabinet, the hubs worked on mounting the TV to the wall. This involved installing an electrical outlet behind the TV and installing the mounting system. I can't go into details about that other than I'm glad that he can do it and we didn't have to pay someone. Thanks honey!

Here is another look at the finished product.

I love the hardware. Found these at Home Depot from the Martha Stewart collection. Less than $10 for the pair.

So there you have it - quick media stand update.

Happy Friday everyone!

Another Pillow and Another Accent Color

Whoop, Whoop! I am adding yet another pillow to the living room. This one from Target.

It's hard to capture, but it looks really great in the room. Especially since the curtains have a square pattern as well.

And now that I have added yellow as a color, I found a rug that I think would look ah-mazing in the room.

Via Rugs USA

If the rug wasn't sold out, I would have bought it. I love Chevron print, but I think I love ikat chevron print even more. I think it would tie in nice with the grey ikat pillows that we have from Crate & Barrel. I'm keeping my eye out and hoping that it comes back into stock.

I'd love to know what you think!

Adding Color to the Living Room

As you have probably noticed,  my living room is rather blah. I think I have colorphobia. For whatever reason I have been afraid to commit to adding any color to the room.  This, however, has changed. Thanks to a Christmas gift from my sister, I am officially adding light blue to the room.

Pillow is from Pottery Barn. You can see it on their website here

Once I put the pillow on the couch, I found a clay dish that was also blue and put that on the fireplace.

Though this is just a baby step, it is a step in the right direction.

Love and Hugs to you all!

Easy Valentine's Day Craft

In an effort to get into the Valentine's day spirit, I did a quick and easy craft with Madilynn the other day. She loves anything that involves glitter, glue and scissors so this craft was perfect for her.

It was so easy that anybody could do it and it was completely free!  Here are the supplies you will need:

Then just cut, glue, glitter and tape onto the twine and you'll have yourself the easiest Valentine's Day craft ever!

I'm Being Featured!

I have been blogging for almost one year and I finally mustered up the courage to submit one of my projects to another website. Do you remember my Pia Side Table Look-A-Like post? Well if you don't, head on over to Knock Off Decor to check it out again. Today I am being featured on their website for this project.

A Big Girl Bed = Big Girl Bedding

The bedding is here! Eeeek!

I am so in love with her new room. As you can see we had to change the room around slightly to accommodate her new, larger bed. One of my pet peeves is a bed against a wall, but it will have to work for now. Plus, it means less chance for her to roll off of it at night.

The quilt, euro sham and duvet cover are from Pottery Barn Kids. The sheet set is from Bed, Bath & Beyond. I found her a down alternative comforter at Ross for a bargain price of $14.99.  I am still looking for a bedskirt. The one I like is $150 and that is just WAY to much to spend on a bed skirt. I can't seem to find any with split corners at any local stores so I may need to order one online.

Maddie Gets A Big Girl Bed

We have been thinking about getting Madilynn a big girl bed for some time now. But like most parents it's one of those steps we hesitated on - obviously, she is almost 3 now! We weren't sure whether or not she was ready, whether she would stay in it all night or be coming into our bed, or just completely freak out. Well, you never know until you try. We found the Allie Iron bed from Pottery Barn Kids off of Craigslist for $150. Regularly $500.

It had a couple areas where the paint was chipping off and exposing the raw iron so we are going to have to fix it up a little.

Also, you know how the paint at Pottery Barn Kids is sometimes a little "yellowish"? Well, I don't like that so I am going to spray it bright white.

Oh spray paint! How you have changed my life!

After about three coats of spray paint, the bed is drying in the garage. I have ordered some AMAZING bedding for her and it should be here by the end of the week so check back for the reveal.
